metanoAny human activity, including candle manufacturing, needs energy. One of our top
priorities is selecting energy sources that have the least environmental impact. This is the
result.
To heat the wax during processing we use natural gas (see below). Our vapour generator
shows a very high thermal efficiency; the burner is controlled by a minicomputer that
modulates the flame continuously and cuts consumption. Unused heat is recovered by
using 100% of condensation.
We are planning a further recovery of unused heat to heat the offices.
All company cars are eco-compatbile and driven by natural gas.
Natural gas is a major source of electric generation. Natural gas burns more cleanly than
other fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, and produces less carbon dioxide per unit energy
released. For an equivalent amount of heat, burning natural gas produces about 30% less
carbon dioxide than burning petroleum and about 45% less than burning coal. Combined
cycle power generation using natural gas is thus the cleanest source of power available
using fossil fuels, and this technology is widely used wherever gas can be obtained at a
reasonable cost.
Natural gas is supplied to homes, where it is used for such purposes as cooking in natural
gas-powered ranges and/or ovens, heating/cooling and central heating.
Compressed natural gas (methane) is a cleaner alternative to other automobile fuels such
as gasoline (petrol) and diesel.
Natural gas is often described as the cleanest fossil fuel, producing less carbon dioxed per
joule delivered than either coal or oil, and far fewer pollutants than other fossil fuels.
Natural gas produces far lower amounts of sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxiedesthan any
other fossil fuel.
In a few weeks we'll start to build our own photovoltaic (solar) power plant (100 Kw) that
will fully meet the factory's energy needs. It will be the largest one in the province of Pisa.
